Recovery Time Objective - RTO

The Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is the maximum period of time that a business process will be unavailable before you can restart it.

For instance, you set an RTO for 24 hours. Disaster strikes at Noon interrupting the business process. An RTO of 24 hours means you will restart the business process by Noon the following day. The RTO must be less than the MTD.
